Privacy Policy

Riddles Lab ("we", "us") publishes riddles, would-you-rather questions, trivia, brain teasers, party questions and printable card packs at riddleslab.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version

  • We don't ask for your name or email and you don't need an account.
  • When you vote on a would-you-rather or this-or-that question, we store the vote with a random code your browser makes up. We can't tell who you are from it.
  • We use analytics to see which pages and features people use, and we may show advertising, which uses third-party cookies.
  • We don't sell your personal information.

Votes

A vote is stored on our server with the question, the side you picked, the time, the page, and a random code kept in your browser's local storage so you can't vote twice on the same question. To stop one network from stuffing a result, we also keep a one-way scrambled code made from your IP address and the date. It changes every day, can't be turned back into your IP address, and is used only to cap votes; the IP address itself is never stored. Votes are counted in totals, and a question's split is shown only once 50 people have voted on it.

Things kept on your device

Your voter code and which side you picked on each question are kept in your browser's local storage, so the page remembers that you voted. Quiz scores are not saved anywhere. Clearing your browser data deletes all of this.

Analytics and server logs

Like nearly every website, our hosting and analytics record technical details of each visit: the pages viewed, the page or search that sent you, approximate location from your IP address (city or region, not street level), browser and device type, screen size, language and time. We use this in aggregate to see which pages are useful, which are broken and where the site is slow. The site also reports when an answer is revealed, a vote is cast, a quiz is started and finished with its score, a tool is used or a card pack is downloaded, with nothing that identifies you.

Advertising

Riddles Lab is free and is supported by advertising. Our advertising partners and their vendors may set cookies or similar identifiers to measure ad performance and, where permitted, to show ads relevant to your interests. They may receive your IP address, browser details and the pages you view here. We don't receive or store the personal information they collect, and we don't sell personal information. Where the law requires consent for personalised advertising, including in the EU and UK, you'll see a consent notice and can change your choice at any time. Residents of California and other US states with similar laws can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising through the same notice or by emailing us. You can also opt out of interest-based ads at optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and local storage for analytics, for advertising as described above, and to remember your votes. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies. Everything on the site still works without them, except that a vote you cast can't be remembered.

Children

Riddles Lab is written for adults and for the adults who choose games for others: parents, teachers, youth leaders and activity coordinators. Some pages are pitched at children, but the site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to some uses. Because votes are stored against a random code rather than your identity, we usually can't link a vote to a person, but we will help where we can. Email hello@riddleslab.com.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date below it.
