Riddles for Adults
These riddles are about the stuff of adult life: money in and money out, housing, office routines and the family milestones that arrive with middle age. The humor lands because you have lived it. A ten-year-old could follow the words, but the answers only click once you have signed a lease or sat through a long Monday meeting.
A good adult riddle relies on a word with two lives, one ordinary and one grown-up. The best ones take one clue from money, one from somewhere unexpected and one from home life, and all three point at the same word. The set is clean throughout: no innuendo, no drinking jokes, nothing you would hesitate to read at a work lunch or at a family table with the in-laws present.

How to use them at a dinner party or work lunch
Between courses works better than during them. Read one riddle while plates are being cleared, let people talk it over, and reveal the answer only when the table has either got it or run out of guesses. Three or four riddles spread across an evening keep the conversation going without turning dinner into a quiz.
At work, one riddle at the top of a weekly meeting is plenty. Put it on the screen, give people the length of the agenda to think, and reveal it at the end.

- Let whoever solves a riddle read the next one, which spreads the reading around and draws in the quieter guests.
- For a party, print the card pack and leave a card face down at each place setting as a conversation starter.
