Trivia Questions for Adults
These questions sit at the level of a good quiz night: harder than a warm-up, fairer than a specialist round. They cover history, science, language, the arts and places around the world, written for adults who read widely but do not memorize almanacs. The content stays clean, so the set works at a work social or a family gathering where the grandparents are playing too.
A good adult trivia question rewards general knowledge built up over years rather than one niche hobby. It gives enough context that a player can make an educated guess, and it has one answer that sources agree on. Each answer on this page links the source it was checked against, which matters when a table of adults decides to argue about it.

Running an adult quiz night
Teams of four work well at this level. Run five rounds of eight questions, mark answers after each round, and keep the scores on a board where everyone can see them. A tie-break with a number for an answer, where the closest guess wins, settles a draw without another round.
For a smaller group, use quiz mode instead: the page turns each question into multiple choice and keeps score, so one person can read from the screen while the others call out answers. Hosts who prefer paper can print the card packs, eight questions a page with the answers on a separate sheet.
Tips for hosting grown-ups
- Ban phones at the table before the first question, and make the penalty a lost point rather than a lecture.
- Give a bonus point to any team that can explain why the answer is right, not just name it.
- Mix arts and language questions between the science ones so no single specialist can carry a team through a round.
- Announce the scores after every round, because a close scoreboard keeps tired teams paying attention to the final questions.
How this page was checked
Every question cites the article it was checked against, and a second solver answered each one blind before it went up. Facts that change over time were left out. Our editorial standards.
