Would You Rather Questions for Kids

Every question here is written for children six to ten: a robot best friend or a friendly dinosaur, naming a new star or naming a new crayon color, beating a cheetah in a race or an owl in a staring contest. Nothing is scary, nothing is gross, and nothing needs explaining to a young child.

With kids, the hard part is making both sides tempting. If one option is plainly more fun, every child picks it and the game is over. These pairs set two good things against each other, so children have to think about which they would like more and why. That 'why' is where the talking starts, and it is good practice at giving a reason.

Playing would you rather with kids

In a classroom, read the question and have students walk to one side of the room or the other. Ask two children from each side to explain their choice, then let anyone switch. It works as a morning meeting activity, a movement break or an indoor recess game.

At home, use them at dinner or on a long drive. Kids will want to ask the grown-ups too, so be ready with a real answer and a real reason. Once a question has 50 votes on the site, you can show them how other players picked.

Tips for playing with kids

  • Ask for a reason with every answer, even a short one; 'because dinosaurs are cool' counts for a six-year-old.
  • Let the youngest child choose first, so they are not just copying whatever an older sibling says.
  • Turn a question into a drawing prompt: each child draws the option they picked and shows it to the group.
  • Keep the medium questions for older kids who find the easy ones too obvious to argue about.
